The University Office of Planning and Development has been renamed the University Office of Planning as the “Development” function has now been relocated to the Office of the Vice-Chancellor.
The name change was approved by the Vice-Chancellor acting on behalf of the University Finance and General Purposes Committee with immediate effect from November 2016.
The University Office of Planning (UOP) falls under the Regional Headquarters of The University of the West Indies (The UWI) and is one of many administrative units which assist the Vice-Chancellor in administering the affairs of the University. It is headed by a Pro Vice-Chancellor (PVC), Planning who reports directly to Vice-Chancellor Professor Sir Hilary Beckles.
The UOP has four (4) core portfolios, namely: Strategic planning, institutional research, project management and academic/industry partnerships. It has overall primary responsibility for coordinating the preparation, implementation, monitoring and assessment of the University’s Strategic Plan. It also coordinates efficiency studies and prepares productivity reports to inform operational and strategic planning efforts.
At the 2016 University Council meeting, Professor Densil Williams was appointed Pro Vice-Chancellor (PVC) and subsequently named PVC Academic-Industry Partnerships and Planning. As part of his remit, PVC Williams oversees the University Office of Planning.
